The carpal tunnel is a narrow, tunnel-like structure in the wrist. The median nerve passes through this tunnel from forearm to hand. The median nerve controls feeling in the palm side of the thumb, index finger, and long fingers. When this carpel tunnel gets squeezed you may feel numbness, weakness, burning and tingling in the hand and fingers. That is called as carpal tunnel syndrome or CTS.
Females are effected mire commonly than males. In the UK, about three in 100 men and five in 100 women experience CTS is their lifetime.

What cause CTS?

·         When the median nerve gets presses in the carpal tunnel the symptoms start appearing. In many cases exact cause is unknown.
·         Those who have family history of CTS are more prone to carpal tunnel syndrome.
·         Injury to the wrist can cause CTS
·         Disease conditions like Diabetes mellitus, Rheumatoid arthritis, Thyroid disorders can cause this.
·         Work stress; repeated use of vibrating hand tools can be seen in some cases.
·         Fluid retention during pregnancy or menopause can also cause CTS

Symptoms of CTS

·         The symptoms start gradually and progress gradually.
·         Numbness, tingling and pain in the hands.
·         Burning and itching in the palms.
·         Some patient feels weakness in the hands and tendency to drop things from hands.
·         An electric shock like pain from hand to shoulder.
In most of the cases symptoms are worse at night. In chronic untreated cases symptoms may be seen during day time too.

How to diagnose Carpal tunnel syndrome?

A physician can make out CTS by examining your hand.
Routine blood test like CBC and FBS should be done to rule out other medical conditions.
Electrophysiological tests. Electrical testing of median nerve function is often done to help confirm the diagnosis and clarify the best treatment option in your case.
X-rays. If you have limited wrist motion, your doctor may order x-rays of your wrist.

Homeopathy for CTS

Homeopathy can cure and prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. You need to consult a qualified homeopath to get your remedy for your CTS. Homeopathic medicines changes according to your symptoms.
Commonly used medicines are
Ruta 30 : It is used very frequently for CTS. Stiffness of wrist joint aggravated by cold wet weather. Bruised pain in the wrist and fingers.
Rhus tox: Inflammation in the wrist joint. General morning aggravation. Rheumatic joint diseases.
Causticum: Paralyzed feeling in the hands. Used in diseases of tendons. Contraction and indurations of tendons
Calc phos: Stiffness in the morning. Pain in cervical region.
Hypericum : A good remedy for CTS. Neuralgic pain in the hands.
Arnica: CTS after injury. Inflamed tendons at wrist.

VIRAL HEPATITIS | Cause, Symptoms & Homeopathy

Viral hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver caused by virus. It is also called as infectious hepatitis.
Noninfectious hepatitis is mainly due to alcohol, some drugs and chemicals, metabolic disorders, autoimmune diseases and obesity.
It can present in acute (less than 6 months) and chronic states (more than 6 months)
Commonly three types of hepatitis viruses are seen which are Hep A virus, Hep B virus and Hep c virus.

Hepatitis A

It is one of the most common viral hepatitis. It is caused by hepatitis A virus, a picorna virus.
It is transmitted through fecal-oral route. It can be seen only in acute stage and gives lifelong immunity. Hepatitis A is widespread in parts of the world that are poor, over-crowded and have limited access to sanitation and clean water, such as Africa, India, Pakistan & some parts of the Middle East and South America

Symptoms
·         low grade fever – usually no higher than 39.5C (103.1F)
·         Joint pain with low back ache.
·         feeling and being sick
This may then be followed by symptoms related to the liver becoming infected, such as:
·         yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
·         passing very yellow or dark coloured urine and
·         pale faeces
·         Nausea and vomiting with abdominal discomfort.
·         itchy skin
Symptoms usually clear up within 15 days or 1 month.

Management
Patient is advice to take rest, increase fluid intake and follow low protein diet.
Homeopathic medicines are really helpful to cut down the duration and sufferings.  Homeopathic medicines will listed below which should be taken as per your homeopath’s advice.
Complications tend to only occur in people with pre-existing liver disease and /or elderly people, with the most serious being liver failure (where the liver loses most or all of its functions).

 Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is caused by hepatitis B virus, a hepadnavirus . 15% adults who are infected with hepatitis B virus are unable to eliminate the virus after initial infection which leads to a chronic hepatitis B, possibly resulting in serious liver damage. Hepatitis B is one of the most common cause for the liver cancer.
Transmission
It is a sexually transmitting disease.  It can be spread through blood and body fluids like semen and breast milk.
It can be spread through sharing needles and cotton from a HBV infected person.
A new born baby can get infected during delivery if mother is infected with HBV. It can be spread through breast feeding also.

Symptoms

It may tale about 60 to 140 days to start showing the symptoms of HBV infection. Sometimes it may not show any symptoms at all and they become chronic carriers.
Symptoms can include:
·         flu-like symptoms, such as tiredness, general aches and pains, headaches
·         feeling sick
·         lack of appetite
·         being sick
·         yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
Investigations

·         Blood routine
·         Liver function test
·         HBsAg
·         AFP
Treatment
Homeopathy has a specific treatment protocol for hepatitis B in acute or chronic stages. A detailed case taking will be done to get in to your homeopathic remedy. Consult a homeopath to get it cures.

Hepatitis C

It is caused by hepatitis C virus. It is more common in England. It lead to chronic hepatitis and patient may be unaware of hepatitis C infection as it rarely shows common hepatitis symptoms.
Acute infection with HCV may rarely cause FHF. Approximately 70-90% of patients with hepatitis C become chronically infected.
HCV can be transmitted through contact with blood (including through sexual contact if the two parties' blood is mixed) and can also cross the placenta.

Homeopathy for Viral hepatitis

Homeopathy is safe and effective in all type of viral hepatitis. Homeopathic medicines can be used as preventive as well as curative for viral hepatitis.
It has been evidenced that homeopathic medicines not only reduce the period, or duration, of the illness, but also possible complications. Each epidemic, of course, will have its own homeopathic medicine (called Genus epidemicus).
In acute hepatitis homeopathy has a specific treatment protocol and in some cases details case-taking will be needed.
In chronic cases, a detailed case-taking will be necessary to obtain an individualized homeopathic remedy.
Here are some homeopathic medicines which are commonly used in acute hepatitis. You are not allowed to treat it yourself without your physician’s advice.

KIDNEY STONE (RENAL CALCULUS) | CAUSE, SYMPTOMS & HOMEOPATHY

What are kidney stones?
Kidney stones (also known as Nephrolithiasis or Renal calculus) are small hard masses made up of crystals which are seen in urinary tract (Kidney, urethra and ureter). These crystals are formed by minerals and acid salts. Usually stones forms when the urine becomes concentrated as minerals get crystallized and stick together.
Kidney stone is one of the most painful condition. Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size (usually at least 3 millimeters (0.12 in)) they can cause obstruction of the ureter.
National Institute of Diabetes and Kidney Disease reports that about 1 million people in the United States are treated for kidney stones each year.

Types of kidney stones

Calcium
Calcium stones are the most common. They can be made of calcium oxalate (most common), phosphate, or maleate. Oxalate is a naturally occurring substance found in food. Some fruits and vegetables, as well as nuts and chocolate, have high oxalate levels. Your liver also produces oxalate.Vitamin C and spinach contain oxalate. Calcium-based kidney stones are most commonly seen in young men between the ages of 20 and 30.
Cystine
Cystine stones are rare. They occur in both men and women who have the genetic disorder cystinuria.
Struvite
This type of stone is found mostly in women with urinary tract infection. These stones can be quite large and cause urinary obstruction.
Uric Acid
This type of kidney stone is more common in men than in women. They can occur in people with gout or those going through chemotherapy.
Other
Medications like triamterene and acyclovir also can cause stones.

What are the causes for kidney stones?

There are many factors which can lead to form stones in your kidneys. Certain foods may promote stone formation in people who are susceptible.
People who do not drink enough fluids may also be at higher risk, as their urine is more concentrated.

Risk factors
·         Family history: If someone in your family has kidney stones, you're more likely to develop stones, too.
·         Dehydration: Not drinking enough water each day can increase your risk of kidney stones. People who live in warm climates and those who sweat a lot may be at higher risk than others..
·         High-protein, salt, or glucose diet: A high-salt diet is another risk factor, as an increased amount of sodium passing into the urine can also pull calcium along with it. The net result is an increased calcium level in the urine, which increases the probability for stones. Intake of oxalate-rich foods such as leafy green vegetables, nuts, tea or chocolate may also worsen the situation.
·         Obesity
·         Inflammatory bowel diseases (which can cause increase calcium absorption)
·         Other medical conditions. Diseases and conditions that may increase your risk of kidney stones include renal tubular acidosis, cystinuria, hyperparathyroidism, certain medications and some urinary tract infections.
What are the symptoms?

Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms.
Some stones may be washed out of the kidney by urine flow and end up trapped within the ureter or pass completely out of the urinary tract. Stones usually begin causing symptoms when they block the outflow of the urine from the kidney leading to the bladder. At this point these signs and symptoms may be seen,
·         Severe pain in the side and back, below the ribs
·         Pain that comes in waves and fluctuates in intensity
·         Pain on urination
·         Pain that spreads to the lower abdomen and groin
·         Pink, red or brown urine
·         Nausea and vomiting
·         Persistent urge to urinate
·         Fever and chills if an infection is present
·         Cloudy or foul-smelling urine
·         Urinating more often than usual

Investigations

If your doctor suspects kidney stones in you he may ask you to perform,
·         Blood test: for calcium, phosphorus, uric acid and electrolytes
·         Urine analysis: to check for crystals, bacteria, blood, and white cells.
·         Analysis of passed stones: to determine type
·         Abdominal X-rays
·         Intravenous pyelogram (IVP)
·         Retrograde pyelogram
·         Ultrasound of the kidney
·         MRI of the abdomen and kidneys
·         Abdominal CT scan

Treatment for kidney stone

Treatment of kidney stones varies according to size, number and locations. Small kidney stones (less than 5 mm (0.20 in) in diameter) may pass through urine without any pain or other symptoms. Homeopathy has got wonderful results in treating kidney stones which will be explained in detail later.
Initially NSAIDs are given to reduce the pain and wait for spontaneous expulsion.
During this time the patient is advised to drink plenty of water and liquids. A glass of orange juice in a day can help to prevent kidney stone in susceptible subjects.

Surgical procedures:

Lithotripsy: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy uses sound waves to break up large stones so they can more easily pass down the ureters into your bladder. This procedure can be uncomfortable and may require light anesthesia
Tunnel Surgery (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) :Stones are removed through a small incision in your back
Ureteroscopy: When a stone is stuck in the ureter or bladder, your doctor may use an instrument called a ureteroscope to remove it

HOMEOPATHY FOR KIDNEY STONES

Homeopathy treatment is one of the best choices of treatment in kidney stones. Homeopathic medicines can help you to expel your kidney stones naturally.
If you are diagnosed with stones in your kidneys, consult a qualified homeopath near you. You may need to explain all the symptoms and history in detail to your homeopath.
These are some important homeopathic medicines which should not be taken without a homeopath’s advice.

Gout | cause, signs & symptoms treatment & Homeopathy

Gout is a disorder of purine metabolism, occurring especially in men, characterized by a raised but variable blood uric acid level and severe recurrent acute arthritis of sudden onset resulting from deposition of crystals of sodium urate in connective tissues and articular cartilage.
It is a painful condition of small joints as uric acid crystals get deposited like a needle in the joints.
Uric acid is usually harmless, and is made in the body. Most is passed out with the urine, and some from the gut with the faeces (stools). In people with gout the amount of uric acid in the blood builds up. From time to time the level may become too high and tiny grit-like crystals of uric acid may form.
Deposited uric acid crystals may form a lump in the joints which is called as tophi.

Some people have a high level of uric acid but do not form crystals or have gout. Also, rarely, some people with a normal level of uric acid have gout attacks. However, as a rule, the higher the level of uric acid, the greater the chance of developing gout.

Scientists estimate that 6 million adults age 20 and older report having had gout at some time in their lives

Read :         KIDNEY STONE | CAUSE, SYMPTOMS & HOMEOPATHY

What cause Gout?

A number of risk actors are associated with high uric acid level and gout attack.

·         Genetic: - In many patients with gout has family history of the same. Estimates range from 20 to 80 percent.
·         Gender and age. It is more common in men than in women and more common in adults than in children.
·         Obesity: - High uric acid level I seen in overweight subjects.
·         Alcohol conception: - Too much alcoholic drinks especially beer can cause hyperuricemia(High uric acid level in blood)
·         Diet: - Foods which are high in purines can cause or aggravates gout. Those who suffer from gout should limit the foods which are high in purines like meet, Beer, anchovy, spinach Etc
·         Some health conditions: - Renal insufficiency is one of the most common cause of gout where kidney fails to eliminate uricacid from the body.
Some conditions like Hypertension, hyperthyroidism, Psoriasis, Kelley-Seegmiller syndrome or Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, Hemolytic anemia, Lead poisoning Etc
·         Some medication can cause gout: - Diuretics, which are taken to eliminate excess fluid from the body in conditions like hypertension, edema, and heart disease, and which decrease the amount of uric acid passed in the urine
§  Salicylate-containing drugs, such as aspirin
§  Niacin, a vitamin also known as nicotinic acid
§  Cyclosporine, a medication that suppresses the body’s immune system (the system that protects the body from infection and disease). This medication is used in the treatment of some autoimmune diseases, and to prevent the body’s rejection of transplanted organs.
§  Levodopa, a medicine used to support communication along nerve pathways in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Sign and symptoms

·         Intense and sudden onset of pain in effected joints usually at night
·         Redness with shiny skin over effected joints
·         Swelling or lump caused by tophi due to deposition of uricacid crystals which are tender to touch
·         There can have high uric acid in blood
·         Uric acid crystals can be seen in joint fluid

How is gout diagnosed?

It is not so easy to diagnose gout as it mimics many other joint diseases.
High uric acid level is seen in most of the patient with gout but normal uric acid level does not rule out this condition.
X ray of effected join can help to diagnose it
Synovial fluid aspiration to detect the uric acid crystals in it

How is gout treated?

A short course of anti-inflammatory pain killers (NSAIDs) are used to stop the pain and inflammation.
Long term use of NSIDs (Non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs) is not healthy as it may damage kidneys.
On Acute attacks apply icepacks to reduce the pain.

Homeopathy for Gouty arthritis

Homeopathic remedies can help you to reduce the pain caused by gout and put the uric acid level in blood to normal.
